National Races

The following Republicans are running for national office in 2006.

OFFICE NAME
US House of Representatives (NC-8th District) Robin Hayes
Robin Hayes currently serves as our Congressman, representing the 8th District of North Carolina for the past eight years. In Congress, he serves on three committees that provide direct benefit to the District: the House Armed Services Committee as Vice-Chairman of the Terrorism Subcommittee, the Agriculture Committee as Chairman of the Livestock and Horticulture Subcommittee, and the Transportation Committee. These positions allow him to provide assistance to our brave men and women serving at Ft. Bragg and Pope Air Force Base, ensure the prosperity of our family farmers and the entire Ag community, and look after the transportation and infrastructure needs of Eighth District communities. He believes that the prosperity of our communities depends on quality education, and he has worked with local school systems and community colleges to introduce new technology into the classroom and provide teachers with classroom-access to vast new resources. For further information, you may visit his website at http://www.robinhayes.com, or call his campaign office at 704-795-2000.

Dr. Ada Fisher
Dr. Ada M. Fisher is a medical doctor and a candidate for the US NC 12th District. Times like these require that we "Get a Doctor in the House" with healing hands as well as a prescription that is "Good for what ails us!" Dr. Fisher is a dynamic, exciting, progressive, committed, compassionate, conservative Republican who is a constitutionalist, and she wants your vote for the US 12th District Congressional Race. Other State Races of Note

The following additional North Carolina political races may affect and should interest our members.

OFFICE NAME
NC Court of Appeals Kris Bailey
Kris Bailey has served as a District Court Judge, as General Counsel to our state auditor, and on the US Supreme Court Bar. Experience matters in our court system, and trial court experience is crucial for a Court of Appeals justice since it reviews trial court cases. As a District Court judge, he ruled in over 40,000 cases. No one in this race can match his experience. He is tough on crime, has a strong work ethic, and a calm demeanor in trial situations. For more information, you can visit his website at http://www.judgekrisbailey.com/.
NC Court of Appeals Donna Stroud
Judge Donna Stroud is seeking election to the North Carolina Court of Appeals. She has served as a Wake County District Court Judge since 2004, where she has presided over thousands of cases, including criminal cases, civil cases, and family law cases including divorce, child custody, child support, domestic violence, equitable distribution, and other matters. Broad trial court experience is essential for a candidate for the Court of Appeals as this Court handles a large variety of cases which are appealed from the District and Superior Courts of the state. Judges must have solid education, excellent professional qualifications, and upstanding character, must be able to understand both the law and the people who come before them, and must have good temperament to use discretion, fairness, patience and common sense in the courtroom. Judge Stroud has demonstrated all of these qualities in her legal career and service as a judge. As an honors graduate of Campbell University School of Law, an experienced Superior Court mediator and District Court arbitrator, and an attorney in private practice in Wake County since 1988, and a District Court Judge, Judge Stroud is highly qualified for this position. As a mother, community leader, and church leader, Judge Stroud displays the type of character and temperament that we can trust. For more information, please visit her website at http://www.judgestroud.com/.
NC Supreme Court Associate Justice Ann Marie Calabria
Judge Ann Marie Calabria seeks a seat on the N.C. Supreme Court with the full backing, support, and endorsement of the N.C. Republican Party. She has lived in North Carolina for more than 25 years, having graduated from Campbell University School of Law in 1983. She has 10 years experience as a District Court Judge and a Judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals. She believes that the United States Constitution and the Constitution of the State of North Carolina establish federal and state governments of limited powers, and that the Founders intended these documents to guarantee freedom, property rights, and individual rights. She further believes in judicial restraint, not judicial activism, and feels the label “Constitutionalist” best describes her outlook in that the Constitution sets forth authorities, responsibilities, and limits on each branch of government. She strongly believes that judges should not legislate from the bench or substitute their own judgment for that of the other branches of government. For more information, please visit her website at http://www.calabria4judge.com/.
NC Supreme Court Associate Justice Eric Levinson
Judge Eric Levinson has served the people of North Carolina as a homicide and sexual assault prosecutor and a District, Family and juvenile Court judge, and is presently one of fifteen members of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. He has been endorsed by US Senators Elizabeth Dole and Richard Burr and by other more than half of the elected Sheriffs of North Carolina. He strongly believes judges must punish the guilty and protect our individual rights and reflect the values of our citizens, yet leave public policy decisions to those elected to our General Assembly. Judges must be mindful of the unacceptably high cost of litigation; dismiss lawsuits that lack merit; and work to avoid the emotional and financial tolls occasioned by long trial delays. He has presided over every type of major dispute -- from serious criminal and class action cases to challenges that concern our constitutional rights. He presents lectures concerning juvenile and family law, and has presided in a model N.C. Family Court -- an experience needed on our Supreme Court. He exercises the values he learned growing up in NC: hard work and respect for the law. For more information, please see his website at http://www.justicelevinson.org/.
NC Supreme Court Associate Justice Mark D. Martin
Judge Mark D. Martin has served the people of North Carolina as a member of the N.C. Supreme Court since January 1999. As the Senior Associate Justice of the N.C. Supreme Court, he consistently strives to uphold our Constitution, decide cases fairly and impartially, and preserve and protect our individual freedoms. If re-elected, he will continue to serve all of us with the experience, fairness, and integrity we expect and deserve. He has strong bi-partisan support of his re-election candidacy from newspapers, former Bar Association Presidents, our US Senators, and many other of our state's leaders. He is second in seniority on the seven-member N.C. Supreme Court, a position referred to as “Senior Associate Justice.” He is the only active judge in North Carolina with experience on the N.C. Supreme Court, N.C. Court of appeals, and N.C. Superior Court. For more information, please see his website at http://www.justicemarkmartin.org/.
NC Supreme Court Chief Justice Rusty Duke
Judge Rusty Duke is a conservative who has gained a reputation as a tough, no-nonsense trial court judge by performing his duties with fairness, impartiality and integrity. As a trial judge for over seventeen years, he has become very familiar with the civil and criminal process and the importance of having appellate judges with trial court experience. He has been endorsed by individuals and organizations including Senator Elizabeth Dole, Senator Richard Burr, the National Rifle Association, and more. To quote Justice Duke: "I believe in Rule of Law. Cases should be decided according to the established law of the land and not the personal preferences of judges. Through judicial activism the most important moral, political, and cultural decisions affecting our lives are steadily being removed by the courts from the democratic process. This is not the application of Rule of Law; on the contrary, it is social engineering by judges enamored with their own power." For more information, please see his website at http://www.rustyduke.com/.
